How can I make a reservation?
We accept reservations on our official website up to 9 months in advance (including the current month).

What is the cancellation policy?
Refunds will be processed to the credit card used for your reservation. Please note that the refund process may take several days to weeks. The timing of the refund will vary depending on the credit card used.

How can I make the payment?
Payment for the Kyoto City accommodation tax, additional breakfast charges, and any other fees should be made at check-in, either by credit card or cash.
May I make a reservation on behalf of another guest?
Yes. When making your reservation, please let us know the name of the guest who will be staying at THE MACHIYA EBISUYA hotel, as well as the guests' contact number and email address.

If someone other than a guest checking-in will be making the payment, please ensure that they are aware of all reservation and payment details.
Does the rate include tax and service charge?
Yes. All rates shown on our webpage include 10% consumption tax (incl. sales tax, VAT, excise duty, etc.) and service fees.

An accommodation tax was implemented in Kyoto City starting October 1, 2018.
As a result, we will charge a separate accommodation tax based on your accommodation fee, as determined by the Kyoto City government. Payment for the accommodation tax can be made via credit card or cash upon check-in. For more information and details, please visit the link below.

Is the Hotel suitable for the elderly?
There are no age restrictions for guests staying at THE MACHIYA EBISUYA hotel.

All rooms in the main THE MACHIYA EBISUYA hotel building is accessible via an elevator or located on the ground floor. However, please note that rooms in our Machiya Wing (MACHIYA Suite Rooms) are located in a two-story traditional Japanese building with no elevator access.

Is the Hotel suitable for children?
Yes. There is no age restrictions for guests staying with THE MACHIYA EBISUYA hotel.

Children 5 years of age and under may share a bed with another adult with no additional charge. In this case, please process the guest as "0" when making your reservation. (Up to 2 children, 5 years of age and younger, may stay free of charge.)

Please be aware that we may not be able to make room adjustments for child-proofing.
Can we have more than the maximum number of guests in one room?
Due to the Japanese Fire Service Act issued by the Kyoto City government, we are unable to accept more than the maximum number of guests indicated under each room.

Are Yukata (Japanese sleepwear) provided?
Yes. All guests will be provided with a yukata to use during their stay.
How many children can stay without any charge?
We allow up to two (2) children, 5 years of age and under, to stay for free (when sharing a bed with an adult).
Are meals included?
An optional western-style breakfast is available for our guests staying at THE MACHIYA EBISUYA Hotel.
Our breakfast includes our “Kyoto Favorites”: pastries from a Kyoto bakery with a history of over 100 years, a selection 3 delicatessen dishes made by a local shop, original blend coffee made by a Kyoto coffee roaster, homemade granola, and more.
Please make a reservation via a "Breakfast Included" plan to enjoy breakfast during your stay.
Are pets allowed at the hotel?
We do not allow pets inside our hotel.
Do you offer rooms with kitchens?
Yes, we offer a number of rooms that include a private kitchen for use during your stay.

How can I access your hotel?
We are located in the heart of downtown Kyoto, near Shijo Station.

From Kyoto Station: Please take the Karasuma Line subway or a bus from Kyoto Station. If you have luggage, we recommend arriving by taxi. For more details, please refer to the access page on our official website.:

How do I get to the hotel by taxi?
We will include Japanese instructions to show your taxi driver in your reservation confirmation e-mail and attached access map.
Do you have any car parking space?
Our hotel does not have a private car park.

However, there are several coin parking spaces located within walking distance. Please contact our staff for additional information and suggestions on where to park during your stay.

Important Information

Are there any restrictions on noise in the machiya house?
No parties or events are allowed inside the machiya hotel at any time.

As the hotel is located in a residential area, with many locals living within the neighborhood, we respectfully ask you to take care when talking in the hallway or outside the hotel (entrance).
Is smoking allowed at your hotel?
Our entire hotel is a non-smoking property.

We ask our guests to not smoke anywhere within the property, or near the entrance of the hotel. For designated smoking areas in Kyoto, please ask our front desk staff.
