Imagine being a samurai lord while taking a walk through this Japanese castle!
Kanazawa Castle was the seat of the Maeda clan, a powerful samurai family, from 1583 to the end of the Edo Period in Japan. Although parts of the castle are more recent reconstructions, they have remained faithful to the original architecture used. The extensive grounds and awe-inspiring castle architecture will have you feeling like you’re in an old Japanese samurai movie scene! Whether you’re interested in Japanese history or not, this is one location you don’t want to miss when traveling in Kanazawa City.
Be sure to check out Kenrokuen Garden, which borders Kanazawa Castle Park, as well when visiting. We recommend hitting up the gardens first thing in the morning, then coming to the castle to explore, and taking a break around lunch time to grab some fresh seafood dishes from nearby Omicho Market!
You will find Kanazawa Castle in the center area of Kanazawa City. You can take the Kanazawa Loop Bus to the castle grounds area, as well as Kenrokuen Gardens. Alternatively, you can take a JR Bus as well. If you have a Japan Railway Pass, the JR Buses will be free, making it a great way to navigate the city.
